• 1/2 turkey tail cut

  • 3 medium-sized tomatoes

  • 3 tbsp garlic powder
  • 1-2 tbsp red chili powder
  • 5 tbsp kosher salt

How to Prepare Turkey Tail with Yam Fries using Symplinatural Recipes

Turkey Tail with Yam Fries;

Wash turkey tail thoroughly under cool to lukewarm water. Cut into pieces and place in a large bowl. Mix turkey tail with onion powder, garlic powder and 2tbsp salt thoroughly. Add chilli powder to taste. Marinate for at least 15–20 minutes. 

Place 2 tomatoes, 1/4 onion, 1 garlic clove and 1-2 scotch bonnet chillies in a blender. Add half the amount of remaining salt and blend. Once you achieve a puree consistency, stop blending and taste. Adjust the seasoning if necessary. Pour in small bowl, cover and place in fridge.

Once ready, deep fry turkey tail until skin is crispy and golden brown. (The flesh should be light pink to light brown.) Strain from oil and place on paper towel to soak up excess oil. Maintain temperature of oil.

Slice remaining tomato and onion into a thin julienne and place aside for garnish.

In a mixing bowl, add Sympli Yam Fries and salt to taste, mix thoroughly to combine.

Next gently use a cooking tong to drop yam fries piece after piece into the same oil as turkey tail (for added flavour). Be careful not to overcrowd the pan.

CAUTION: The oil may bubble and pop out of the fryer. Place only one piece at a time into the hot oil. Fry only moderate amounts of frozen food at a time, making sure to remove freezer burn or any excess ice before cooking. If frozen pieces get stuck together, they should be allowed to defrost slightly and then broken up before inserting into hot oil. DO NOT LEAVE UNATTENDED WHEN FRYING.

Fry for about seven minutes, or until cooked through, crispy and golden. 

Serve Sympli Yam Fries with turkey tails and 2tbsp of tomato chilli puree on the side.
